Staying up With The Culture
Hey there, one of our core values is staying culturally relevant. Another way to say it is keeping our ability to communicate in terms and ways that our society understands. It does not mean we change or compromise the truth of God’s word, we simply put the message in a language and format that people understand. As I preach to many different cultures with vastly different contexts of moral, social, and world views, it is necessary to adapt the truth I am trying to teach them. Jesus was of course a revolution in cultural relevance. Jesus could have spoken of such heavenly things that none of us would have ever understood. However, He took deep spiritual truths and put them in the daily language of the people. This technique was called parables. I love the scripture that says the common people heard Him gladly [Mk.12:37]. You did not need to be a Dr. of the law to try and understand him. Jesus presented the culture of the kingdom of heaven in terms they could understand. Although He Himself was of a entirely different kingdom than this world system, because He loved people He found ways to talk to them and relate to them.
